Staffing Handled
One of the key issues in COBOL modernization situations is driven by the aging of the programming staff:
there aren’t enough COBOL resources in the marketplace, and new ones aren’t growing on trees...
Or in schools, either.
With new languages many younger programmers are making alternative choices...
As the baby boomers retire, the challenging question is what will COBOL shops do for future programming resources?
This is not a simple question, and there aren’t simple answers specifically, but we will try and characterize the opportunity like this:
if you move from COBOL to COBOL/Java, as LegacyJ supports, you can choose to:
1. have your COBOL programmers continue to maintain in COBOL,
2. have them add Java to their resumes
3. have them switch to Java
4. have COBOL guys doing COBOL, and Java guys doing Java
5. let every one of your staff choose: continue, retire, retrain
In short, LegacyJ supports all of your choices...
