LegacyJ delivers a state-of-the-art COBOL compiler for Linux for IBM Enterprise Servers

LegacyJ PERCobol COBOL compiler is now available for Linux for zSeries and S/390 bringing the capabilities of COBOL and Java technology

SAN JOSE, CA – April 27, 2001-- LegacyJ Corporation, today announced the availability of PERCobol Enterprise for Linux for zSeries and S/390. PERCobol is the compiler that delivers advanced COBOL functionality combined with Java capabilities.

LegacyJ’s PERCobol compiler permits COBOL business applications to make use of advanced e-business capabilities through the creation of applications, Servlets and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) using COBOL business rules and logic. The LegacyJ COBOL compiler will generate programs that will execute on most major operating environments including Linux. PERCobol for Linux for zSeries and S/390 continues the LegacyJ emphasis of making available the latest COBOL technology across wide range of operating systems. LegacyJ now offers a choice of deployment options for eServer** zSeries and S/390 servers

PERCobol contains rich COBOL compile and execution functionality. The PERCobol compiler supports a broad definition of COBOL syntax from most popular COBOL vendors. COBOL applications can be deployed as web server applications (using WebSphere), as applets or any combination of Server/Client application. PERCobol compiles to J2EE compliant Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) that can be integrated with other EJBs from Java.

"I am very excited about bringing the LegacyJ COBOL technology to Linux for S/390, said Charles Townsend, president of LegacyJ. "It enables our customers to capitalize on the strength of the IBM eServer zSeries and make use of open characteristic of Linux. I appreciate the assistance of the IBM Solutions Partnership program and the San Mateo IBM porting center in making it possible for LegacyJ to quickly test the PERCobol Linux capabilities on S/390."
