Paradigm Shift

The start of the usual thought process for modernizing COBOL / CICS on an IBM mainframe is a large project including

  • "archaelogical" analysis of the current COBOL application

  • counting all the software components

  • a detailed analysis of the business processes, old and proposed

  • a collection of design and review steps pertaining to

the new application processes, the new environment, the

the new language to be used

then the project begins with need for additional hardware, software, network resources, programmers, analysts — all over and above your current operational budget, staffing and resource requirements...

At LegacyJ, we were clear that this was not the way to go back when we started the development of our product line with our first cross-compiler, PERCobol.
