Frequently Asked Questions

File Control and SQL both use JDBC for access to relational databases; does this mean that file access such as VSAM uses JDBC?

LegacyJ Transaction Platform does not access VSAM data directly. There are many options for accessing VSAM data which permit transactions to be deployed into a J2EE environment; some of these options include:

  • JDBC connection to VSAM on the mainframe (other vendors such as Neon Systems or Cross Access have solutions).
  • Migrate the VSAM data into SQL.
  • LegacyJ Transaction Platform/PERCobol includes the capability to access VSAM data stored in SQL without program code changes.
