once you can see your old applications running on a new platform, you can then begin the process of considering what else you want to do.

• You can continue to maintain the apps in COBOL
• You can begin maintaining them in Java
• You can begin adding new components (POS interfaces, for example) in any J2EE-compatible language or tool
• You can move forward as we develop additional Java and .Net capabilities to take your old applications into current technology instantiations

You get to choose any and all of the steps — including keeping that mainframe up and paying for it until you’re completely comfortable with the performance, stability, and maintainability of your new technology platforms.
